Certainty Shows Up After You Move
What this video is about
There’s a point in every decision where research stops helping. You’ve read the reviews, asked your friends, made the spreadsheet. And you still don’t feel sure.
This video is about what to do when you’ve reached that point and keep going anyway.
Why more research doesn’t settle it
Gathering information feels responsible. It also feels safe, because as long as you’re researching, you haven’t risked anything. For a while, it really does help.
Then it starts to work like a holding pattern.
Part of the reason is that the information you need most isn’t available yet.
- How a new role will actually feel on a Tuesday afternoon.
- Whether you’ll like the town once the moving boxes are gone.
- Whether you’ll enjoy the class or the new routine. You can only learn those things by trying them.
Another part is that the feeling of certainty is built from experience, not facts.
Your brain trusts what it has seen you do. It doesn’t fully trust what you’ve read about.
Small moves count
Moving doesn’t have to mean jumping. Most big decisions can be tested in smaller pieces:
- Have one real conversation with someone already living the option you’re considering.
- Try a short version first, like a weekend, a single session, or a trial month.
- Set a decision date and tell one person about it.
Each of these gives you something research can’t: your own reaction. And your reaction is the data that actually builds confidence.
Why this matters
Many women in midlife have spent decades being the careful one, the one who thinks it through for everybody. That’s a real strength. It can also turn into waiting for a level of sureness that never comes.
You’re allowed to move while you’re still a little unsure. Clarity tends to follow the step, not come before it.
Your best first move
Name the one piece of information you keep looking for. Then ask yourself whether you could only get it by doing something. If so, pick the smallest version of that something and put it on your calendar.
