The search for significance

We’re so uniquely pressured to have impact outside of our immediate surroundings.

It wasn’t too terribly long ago that people never ventured outside of their village in their whole entire life.

The utility of having global impact was not a twinkle in anyone’s eye.

Now, not only can we physically travel anywhere we want.

But even our thoughts can travel further than previous generations ever did.

We’ve become entitled to the entire world as our audience.

Having purpose, impact, and significance no longer means:

Who did I love?

Who loved me?

What kind of children did I raise?

What did I leave behind for others to pick up in my stead?

How well did I serve God?

We’ve reduced our existence to a series of 1s and 0s to prove that only the one was here.

The rush to prove our existence through our enlightened words and actions is at a fever pitch.

What will we do if AI truly assumes the banality of our lives?

How will we have significance then?

Will we reach out to those around us?

Or will we just assume everyone has their needs met and reach even more inward?
